Each component they produced epitomized state-of-the-art and contained a degree of design and construction quality never before seen. Particularly in the arena of magnetic tape technology they led the pack. Their reel-to-reel and cassette decks from the 60s throughout the 70s had a level of mechanic and technological precision seldom seen. The Tandberg 9141x was introduced in 1974 with a production run until 1978 and an original selling price of $1,050.00. It is a truly well made tape deck that provides outstanding sonic performance in both record and playback. It was designed and constructed with a high level of ingenuity. Some of its many features and functions include; 3 Motors Cross-Field Technology the main point with the Crossfield technique is that the tape passes between the record head and a special Crossfield head. During recording the Crossfield head provides transverse bias magnetization which means that the tape is thoroughly magnetized. The result is that the tape can accept much stronger signals than with conventional techniques and reproduce the same signals without audible distortion. This yields, amongst other benefits, minimum distortion, a generous overload margin, a very wide frequency range at all tape speeds, and an extended dynamic range. 3-Speeds 15, 7 ½, 3 ¾ ips 3-Heads Plus Addition Bias Heads Sound-on-Sound Recording Dual Peak-Indicating Level Meters Dimensions 16 ¼ H x `5 ¾ W x 7 D Weight 33.5 lbs. unpacked Condition: Tape deck has been in storage for many years. I pulled it out and tested. It is operating great, although to get it into play mode you need to lightly nudge the pinch roller assembly into place while pressing the play button. I believe this is a problem cased by it sitting around for so long unused. The lubrication stiffened up a bit. When it is in play mode it plays great, both channels sound great. FF & REW are strong as well. All meters and lights are working. Cosmetically there is 1 ding in the face above the right reel spindle. A few scratches are evident upon close inspection of the wood sides. One of the horizontal placement feet are missing. Transport is a little dusty. Original owner has his id number etched in to the rear of the unit, inconspicuously done.
